Summary
Specialist educational advice for families and professional in Wales

The Families and Young People Officer Team working from the Penallta office covers the County Boroughs of: RCT, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouth, Caerphilly, Newport, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent as well as taking calls on our Helpline from every part of Wales

We are seeking a person with a strong background in education and the inclusion of children and young people with additional needs and disabilities, to join our team.
This is a demanding and extremely rewarding role.

Job Descripton

Responsible to: Assistant Director
Main purpose:

Empowering families and young people through:
 Informing
 Influencing
 Training
 Casework
Main tasks:
Mentoring to project staff/volunteers providing young people and family services
 Complex case work including advocacy
 Helpline
 Volunteer recruitment
 Training
 Representation – influencing local and regional strategy
 Contractual obligations
 Income generation
 Bid and tender writing
 Reporting process set-up for service level agreements, bids and tenders
 Monitoring data gathering for reporting processes
 Equalities and Welsh Language
 Formal disagreement resolution
 Representation at tribunals
 Line management of project staff and volunteers as appropriate
 Deputising for other (including senior) staff as required
 Ability to travel across Wales and good access to transport

FYP Officers may be called upon to assume a national profile in any of the areas where they are the regional lead
All FYP Officers will have responsibility for all these areas of work, although each officer will take the lead role in some of these in their region.

  • Developing volunteers

 Knowledge:

The post holder will have a very good understanding of education establishments and the pressures both the establishment and the family are under

  • Up to date knowledge of legislation and guidance affecting SNAP Cymru
  • Ability and determination to seek up to date information

Ability in Welsh and other languages, including Bliss, BSL and Total Communication, is desirable for all posts across Wales and Welsh language is essential for some.
