SNAP Cymru proudly announces three new shops

Building on the recent success of our SNAP Cymru Siop in Llandrindod Wells, we plan to open three more shops in Neath, Pembroke Dock and Llanelli.   Our shop strategy will support SNAP Cymru in becoming more independent and sustainable in the future and ensure our services are both accessible and visible in the communities we serve.

Our Neath shop, located in Alfred Street, will be open before Christmas; and we are aiming to open both the Pembroke Dock shop, in Lower Meyrick Street, and the Llanelli shop, in Cowell Street, in the New year.

We are on the look-out for good quality items for sale in our exciting new shops.  Items can include:

  • Good quality second hand clothes, especially ladies vintage or antique fashion
  • Fashion accessories such as jewelry, furs, hats shoes and handbags
  • Bric-a-brac including ornaments, pictures, vases, crockery and cutlery
  • New or second hand books, LP’s, CDs and DVDs
  • Good quality furniture

Please remember – if you wouldn’t want to buy it, we probably can’t sell it.Our customers will be looking for good quality items

Taking part in donating items for our shop is a really fun way to support SNAP Cymru! Please ask family and friends to donate generously.

We also welcome the expertise and contributions of any willing volunteers. Not only is this an opportunity to play a positive part in this exciting development of the organisation, but also one where you can learn new skills whilst directly engaging the public. Both volunteers and donations are integral to Snap Cymru’s future sustainability efforts and we wish to thank in advance everyone who helps us.

You can bring items to our collection depot at 1 South Road, Penallta, CF82 7ST, any of our offices across Wales, or call us on 01554 778288 to arrange collection.

What to do with unwanted gifts

According to research, we spent £2.1billion on unwanted Christmas gifts in 2012. That means on average we each received at least two unwanted presents.

But you don’t have to leave them to gather dust; why not donate them to SNAP Cymru to sell in our charity shops.

SNAP Cymru debuts first Charity Shop

On May 31st 2014, SNAP Cymru threw open the doors of our first boutique charity shop.

Based in Llandrindod Wells, the shop seeks to raise money for SNAP to further support those young people, families and parents who are most in need of it.

And this could only be the beginning. SNAP Cymru will hopefully be opening more shops all across Wales, each helping to raise profits for the charity, and improve the support we are able to provide.

Collectively, charity shops make £300m, so the new shop promises to be a great assistance to SNAP’s funding. Recent reports also suggest that having high street shops increase the likelihood of the public donating to the charity, with “a fifth of people said going a charity shop led them to support the organisation in other ways, such a donating money, finding out more about the charity’s word, or signing petitions.”

Also, think-tank Demos has said that charity shops also benefit the wider community, as well as those the charity immediately affects. Volunteer positions have been used as routes into getting the unemployed back into paid work, and the shops themselves used as “a form of community centre for older and vulnerable people to simply “drop in” for a chat.”

With all these benefits and more, it is no wonder that SNAP are eagerly anticipating the debut of this latest venture. But of course, the shop would be nothing without help. We are on the look-out for good quality items to add to our stock, including second-hand clothes (particularly ladies vintage), fashion accessories (jewellery, hats, furs etc.), ornaments, CDs and DVDs, second-hand furniture, or anything else you think may be of use to us.

We are also on the hunt for enthusiastic volunteers to help staff our shop and make it a lively, friendly environment for customers. Whatever time you can donate would be very much appreciated. For more information on either volunteering or donating, please see the contact information below.

Since 1986, SNAP Cymru has worked with families and professionals in schools, education, health and social care to help ensure that children and young people’s needs are identified and assessed and provision is made to help them reach their potential and be fully included.

SNAP launches first boutique charity shop

On Saturday 31st May at 11.00am SNAP Cymru threw open the doors to our first boutique charity shop.

Based in Llandrindod Wells, the shop will raise money for SNAP to continue supporting children, young people and families who are most in need of it.

And this is only the beginning. SNAP Cymru is looking toward this new venture as a starting point from which further shops will be opened all across Wales, each helping to enhance the support and advice we are able to offer families.

Collectively, charity shops turn an annual profit of almost £300m so our new shop promises to be a great asset to SNAP’s work.

We hope our new venture is not just a shop, but a place to meet, inspire and volunteer. Supporting the shop will be a fantastic way to contribute to the local community, to help vulnerable children and families and to bag a bargain at the same time!

Charity shops can also benefit the wider community. Volunteering can be used as a route back into paid work and the shops themselves can become a place for people to simply “drop in” for a chat.

With all these benefits and more, it’s no wonder that we’re excited about this venture. But of course, the shop would be nothing without help. We are on the look-out for good quality items to add to our stock, including clothes (particularly ladies vintage), fashion accessories (jewellery, furs etc.), ornaments, CDs and DVDs, second-hand furniture, or any other quality items you may wish to donate.

We are also on the hunt for enthusiastic volunteers to help staff our shop and make it a lively, friendly environment for customers. Whatever time you can donate would be very much appreciated.
