The Pandy to Hay-on-Wye Walk 2010 >
Sunday 12th September 2010
The Offas Dyke footpath roughly traces the English-Welsh border, following Offa's Dyke for some 70 miles with a 17.5 mile stretch between Pandy and Hay-on-Wye.
The Offas Dyke footpath is regarded by many to be one of the most picturesque of all the National Trails, passing through the Brecon Beacons National Park and further designated areas of outstanding natural beauty. The footpath takes in a variety of scenery ranging from moorland, woodland to more settled valleys. There is plenty of historical importance to be seen on the route, with many significant villages and features along the way.
The Pandy to Hay-on-Wye stretch is one of the Offas Dyke footpath's more engaging routes as it enters the Black Mountains, passing high over the 1,000ft Hatterall Ridge for the best part of 10 miles. There are peaks to negotiate too - Hatterall Hill at 1,540ft and Hay Bluff at 1,963ft. As you'd expect there are excellent views to be had, including Llanthony Priory and the Wye Valley.

On the day:
We will meet and register at the Pandy Inn, Abergavenny from 6:00 AM Sunday morning. We need to set off early and plan to leave by 8:30 AM. If you would prefer to register Saturday evening we will be at the Pandy Inn between 8:00 – 10:00 PM.
Accommodation, drinks, breakfast and packed lunches will be available from the Pandy Inn. Please contact 01873 890203 for more information/to book.
The walk will be supported by trained and experienced guides who will give instruction and guidance on the day. We understand that some walkers are more experienced than other, so it is expected that the guides will lead groups of walkers throughout the day to ensure that everybody has the opportunity to complete the walk at their own pace.
There will be various take-off points along the route for anyone wishing to leave early or for those wishing only to walk part of the route.
We will stop for frequent breaks and for lunch. Please note that there are no toilet facilities along the route, but plenty of trees and bushes!
You can bring dogs, but please be aware that there are sheep on the mountains, so your dog will need to be under your control at all times. Also, please remember to bring water for your dog and poop bags with you.
Arriving at Hay:
Our end meeting point is Kilverts Inn which is situated in the centre of Hay-on-Wye. The route through town will be signposted. Here you will be greeted by the Kilverts staff and SNAP Cymru. We hope you will stay awhile; Entertainment, food and drink will be available. Accommodation is also available at Kilverts, please ring 01497 821042 to book.
Paying in money raised for SNAP Cymru
When you complete the walk we will give you a certificate of completion along with a commemorative souvenir of the day. We will also give you a paying in slip and other details of how to pay the money you rose to help SNAP Cymru.
Thank you!
