Volunteer Story

I initially volunteered for SNAP Cymru for 5 years between 2003 and 2008 after a short break I returned to volunteer and have been here ever since.  They are an incredibly friendly team – really supportive and positive.

I started volunteering because I was unable to do paid work, but wasn’t ready to retire yet. I had very little confidence at the time, and returned to volunteer with SNAP Cymru because I felt respected, challenged and really encouraged.

My original roles initially at SNAP Cymru included general admin, filing, photocopying, and computer work in the Swansea office.   SNAP has given me the ability to work and the confidence to participate.

I have received training with SNAP Cymru and have now moved to work in the telephone helpline service in SNAP Cymru which takes the initial concerns and queries from parents and professionals.   I received helpline, database and data protection training and am now taking the initial calls from families and then passing the queries and referrals through to our trained advisers.  I love this opportunity to gain more skills.  I’m very excited to have this new challenge.

My experience with SNAP has been brilliant.
