Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Overview – Young People (post 16)

This course is designed to help learners develop a clear understanding of what is meant by “Additional Learning Needs” (ALN) and how these needs can affect Young People. It is suitable for professionals, parents, and anyone involved in supporting or working with Young People with ALN. The course encourages active participation, including practical exercises, discussions, and opportunities to share experiences that are relevant to the course content. This interactive approach helps learners connect theory with real-life practice and enhances their confidence in supporting Young People with ALN.

This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to help make informed decisions and provide effective support to Young People with Additional Learning Needs.

The concept of Additional Learning Needs within the current legislative framework

What Additional Learning Needs (ALN) mean for young people and how this differs from children under the ALN Code

The processes involved in identifying, assessing, and meeting the needs of children with ALN

The importance of young people’s consent and involving them in decisions about their support

How to apply knowledge of ALN to support Young Peoples learning, wellbeing, and inclusion

Ways to collaborate effectively with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure children’s needs are met.
