Advocacy
This course is designed to provide an introduction to the principles of Children and Young People’s Advocacy and for individuals to begin developing the knowledge and skills for delivering effective advocacy.
The course has been specifically developed for individuals who hope to support vulnerable children and young people who may have a disability, additional learning needs, excluded or disadvantaged. The training closely follows the Welsh Governments Independent Professional Advocacy National Standards and Outcomes Framework for Children and Young People in Wales.
This training is for anyone wishing to:
- become more confident in identifying the situation when advocacy is appropriate
- develop an understanding of empowerment
- understand the principles of children’s rights, participation and of the communication skills required to support children and young people
- To develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence in delivering advocacy for children, young people, and families
Learning Outcomes
Understand the principles and purpose of advocacy within ALN and disability context
Understand the rights of children and young people under Welsh legislation.
Be able to apply effective communication and listening skills to advocacy situations
Be able to identify common barriers to advocacy and strategies to overcome them
Reflect on personal practice and identify areas for improvement.
