RESPECT Disability Awareness
RESPECT is an engaging and interactive disability awareness training programme designed to build understanding, confidence, and inclusive practice when working with children and young people who have additional needs and/or a disability.
This training provides a safe and supportive space for participants to explore what disability means in everyday life, the different types of disabilities, the impact of discrimination, and the importance of inclusion. Through participatory activities, group discussion, and practical exercises, learners are encouraged to reflect on attitudes, challenge assumptions, and develop skills that promote equality and respect.
This training is suitable for anyone who works with, supports, or has an interest in children and young people, including professionals in education, health, social care, play, youth work, and community settings.
Learning Outcomes, participants will be able to:
- Understand disability and the different types of disabilities
- Recognise the impact and effects of disability discrimination on children and young people
- Understand what inclusive practice looks like in everyday settings
- Identify practical ways to increase participation and involvement in decision-making for disabled children and young people
